What is Sport Edu+
What is Sportedu+
SportEdu+ Project is a three-phased approach to football development designed to develop and teach transferable skills and to provide insight into other career paths within the field of football and sports in general. The programme will be delivered over the academic year which is divided into three terms. Our mission is to provide quality physical education which supports student’s academic pursuits, whilst at the same time developing social competencies and transferable skills to fulfil their career goals in a fun, supportive and safe environment.
Physical Education (PE)
Phase 2 is an amalgamation of the after-school provision combined witha formal education scheme where students gain leadership awards and industry accreditations such as the English FA Awards for those aged 16 -18 years old and the Duke of Edinburgh Award or equivalent for those aged 14-16 years old This phase involves participants accessing in-class formal learning as part of their PE curriculum, whilst gaining additional vocational industry qualifications in specialisms such as coaching, refereeing, first aid, sportsjournalism, physiotherapy, safeguarding and welfare, and many more.
Sports & Physical Activity
Phase 1 starts with an after school physical activities provision to help students develop overall physical literacy. This is the practical coaching and sport instruction phase where students develop the fundamentals of the game of football like passing and receiving, dribbling, shooting and goalkeeping for beginners to advanced skills such as transition and systems of play. Talent identification processes will be an integral part of this phase. Long-Term Player Development: Intelligent development of players is a continuum that overlaps age groups. The programme will adopt modern processes to the development of players. These includes developing the child’s appreciation of the game, keeping winning and losing in proper perspective and being sensitive to each player’s development needs.
Also, we will strive to implement rules and equipment modifications according to the players’ age group, allow players to experience all positions and provide the appropriate number of training sessions and matches according to the player’s stage of development
The elite element of the phase is the player development centre or Centre of Excellence where the most gifted and talented players will be coached by Southampton Academy coaches based in the country. Players will be selected from the inter-schools (FUTSTAR) league, and they will be educated on the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological (four components of football) demands of the game for their level of play. Coaches will strive to help each player reach their full potential and be prepared to move to the next stage of development.
Sport Internship Programme (Employability and volunteering)
Phase 3 will enable the students to combine all the knowledge and skills gained and developed and apply them practically through the sport internship programme. During this phase students will in addition to the physical activity and in-class learning be attached to various sport-based corporations to gain professional insight in the industry. This provides additional opportunities for paid or voluntary work experience.
